Natural Girls Need Variety & Closure… How To Rock A Weave

By S. L. Carroll
If you're a naturalista, you know that taking care of your hair is important. You also know that constantly finding different styles can be annoyingly hard. Variety is still the spice of life, and just because you are natural shouldn’t mean you can’t indulge in switching up and trying new looks.
Instead of trying to learn and perfect a new twist-out or how to use the most popular, new straightening system—why not try a weave instead? Thanks to closures, natural girls can now get weaved up without worrying about leaving any hair out or damaging it. Weave closures help achieve a more realistic blend so daily heat doesn’t need to be applied to natural hair for it becomes thin and breaks off.
Weave closures is an oblong or circle-shaped hairpiece that’s usually made of lace. It is attached to a cornrow base, then secured around the perimeter, to give the appearance of hair coming out of your head, allowing natural women the freedom to choose whatever style they desire. Not convinced?
Here are five more reason naturalistas should seek closure in their lives:
1. Texture Isn't An Issue: Closure pieces come in every texture you could possibly think of, from Silky Straight Remy to Afro-Curly Mongolian. So if you want to just give yourself a vacation from doing hair, closures will still be able to “hold you down.”
2. Versatile Parting: If you invest in a quality lace-base closure, be ready to fool the world into thinking your weave is au naturale. Lace-base closures are designed with medium density and bleached knots to give off the appearance of a natural scalp. Also, allowing you the option to part anywhere on the closure, as well as pull your hair off your face while still creating the effect of a natural hairline.
3. Color Is A Go:  Ladies, with the closure piece, you no longer have to worry about damaging your real strands when trying to color match your weave to your leave out. Lighten or darken your closure and experiment with color in a way you would never do with your natural hair.
4. Save Time: We can't think of anything else more low maintenance than a weave that includes a closure piece. Take a break from the hours of washing, detangling and twist-outs that natural hair requires. Outside of being able to protect your strands while having absolute styling versatility, you can simply wrap your hair or wear a bonnet at night, and you should be all set!
5. Perfect Protective Style: The sole fact that your hair is completely braided and protected underneath a weave—and the closure allows for optimum protective styling. Allowing your crown the break it needs from everyday wear and tear, such as flat-ironing, product build-up, excessive styling and sun damage, does long term good for your hair.
