Gearing up for the New Season
My favorite season is Summer. I think it is because I love the beach. I also love to be barefoot, so at least in summer I can pretend and wear sandals all the time. That is one of the things I hate about cold weather: no more sandals or flip flops or Birkenstocks.
What I love is how beautiful a Fall day can look and feel. Lots of sun, cool breeze but not cold, and wonderful "transitional" wardrobe options. Boots with bare legs, great looking blazers over a t-shirt and the ever popular and chic scarf to add a touch of warmth and so much style.
I also LOVE the changing colors of the leaves and driving out to the country to go apple picking and finding the perfect pumpkin for Halloween.
As beautiful as the colors are, Fall makes me feel a bit stressed actually. Early Fall and the initial back-to-school period is tough. I am not one of those parents who is über-excited to send her children off to school because when they are in school, my husband and I are also. There's homework, school supplies, Squash practice, school uniforms, projects, books to read- the list goes on and on. It usually takes me about two to three weeks to get over my depression and then I start to get excited. I get excited about Halloween. We host the family Thanksgiving Dinner at our house every year and I love the all the cooking, the eating, the fellowship and the love. And, I adore Christmas! I just love decorating and baking and I play Christmas carols from Thanksgiving straight through to New Year's and watch "It's a Wonderful Life" a bajillion times.
Every Fall Gordon and I take our children to Wilkens Fruit and Fir Farm and we go apple picking. It is the best, especially when you get a perfect day. We go out into the orchards and pick apples. Then we go to the pumpkin patch and pick our Halloween pumpkin and they have a great general store and bakery there. We bring home a pie and homemade apple butter and decorative gourds for the table setting for Thanksgiving. It is always a perfect and fun day.
As far as Fall fashion, I am such a sweater girl, and I love to layer my sweaters. I only wear a coat when I absolutely have to. I also love corduroys and they are made so fashionably these days. Last year I found cord leggings by Hue that are so soft they feel like pajamas but look so good with boots and a great sweater. And just this week I found, on sale, colored cords from the Gap in a "sexy boyfriend cut." Again, super cute but fashion forward. Then, there is my greatest weakness next to fragrance - bags. I am trying so hard to resist a new Fall satchel or cross body. It is so tempting with all of the great styles and colors available. I will probably end up satisfying that urge with something cool but affordable at my favorite place, H&M. What about you all? What are some of your favorite things about Fall?
Have a happy season, everyone!
