I transitioned for 6 months, before I had to big chop. There was too much breakage in the back so it had to go. I decided to transition because I wanted my daughter to know that her nautral hair was so beautiful that even Mama wanted to have hair like hers. I'd also been in the company of very powerful women in the last year, that all wore their natural hair proudly and beautifully. I knew I was ready for the change.
If your hair had its own personality, how would you describe it?
Beautifully curly but very set in it's ways. It likes what it likes and wants what it wants.
What is your hair regimen and what are your hair care essentials?
I do a co-wash every 3 days, and once every 2 weeks I use Carol's Daughter Tui shampoo. Every night, I rub my scalp with Lisa's Hair Elixir. To style my big chop, I use a leave-in conditioner and homemade gel.
What has been the best and hardest part of your natural hair journey?
The best part was letting go and embracing my kinks and curls. The hardest part is exactly the same thing.
Who is your hair icon, and why?
Solange, hands down. Her hair is always strikingly beautiful and she does a great job of complimenting her hairstyles with her fashion. Love her!
