How to Manage Two Different Hair Textures While Transitioning

by Diane Da Costa

Growing out you’re relaxer is not an easy task. Constant tangling, straight split-ends, shedding and breakage can make you very frustrated. Are you thinking, “Can I do this transitioning thing?”  Are you easily tempted to give in and relax your new growth? WAIT ONE MINUTE––you’ve come too far to turn back now. After five to seven months of the Grow Out period, you can decide to take the Big Chop and get your freedom curls, or you can continue on the transitioning journey with these easy tips to manage two different textures.

Conditioning Treatments are your best friends. Pre-shampoo conditioning treatments and reparative conditioning treatments can save you from experiencing breakage and shedding. Try the following Carol’s Daughter Hair Care Products as preventive measures.

  1. Carol’s Daughter Transitioning 1-2-3 Kit is the only conditioning hair-care collection that addresses both the scalp and hair in one easy kit. The shampoo will gently cleanse your hair, while the scalp spray will detoxify relaxer residue and exfoliate the scalp. Finally, the conditioner is packed with moisture, vitamins and essential oils to deeply penetrate into the hair-shaft and prevent breakage at the line of demarcation.

  1. Carol’s Daughter Olive Oil Infusion keeps curly and coily roots moisturized and smooth, while relaxed ends are lubricated and strengthened. Apply the pre-shampoo treatment first, then rinse and shampoo with Black Vanilla Shampoo for hydration. Afterward, spray the Black Vanilla Leave-in Conditioner in your hair and use a with a wide-tooth comb to detangle. Now style as desired.

  1. Carol’s Daughter Monoi Repairing Collection will help prevent breakage, shedding and spit-ends while you’re transitioning, as well as, repair over-processed, colored treated, and relaxed tresses. Monoi instantly makes the hair stronger with the first application.

Natural Sets & Protective Styles provide you with the curly and wavy looks you desire right away. To avoid breakage, it’s imperative to create one smooth texture. Since the natural and relaxed hair require constant combing and manipulation, you can create natural sets and protective styles that rest and grow your hair without constant stress from thermal heat. The following styles are recommended:

  1. Choose from FlatTwist and Braid Sets to produce temporary waves to create consistency for the curly /coily new growth and the relaxed ends. These sets transform into Glam Waves and last for seven to 10 days. While hair is damp, apply Carol’s Daughter Hair Milk Leave-In (Original) Moisturizer all over the hair and then make your natural sets with Hair Milk Styling Pudding.

  1. You can create Spiral Curls by applying Carol’s Daughter Macadamia Heat Styling Foam on wet hair and then use long spiral rods to set your hair. Mist the hair with water to keep the hair wet as you set the entire head. After the hair is completely dry, separate each curl into smaller sections and apply Macadamia Heat Protection Serum.

  1. Protective Styles like, Hair Extensions, Individual Braid Extensions, and Cornrow Extensions are the easiest way to get curly and wavy styles, as you grow out your relaxer. You can choose from all types of textures like soft waves, deep waves, curly, very curly, and afro textures to design your glam style. Protective styles last for six to eight weeks and allows your hair to grow and protects against heat abuse. Remember to condition your hair with Carol’s Daughter Olive Oil Infusion Kit to strengthen and moisturize your hair during the protection period, before you put in the extensions and after you take them out. To moisturize and hydrate your extensions, spray in Carol’s Daughter Black Vanilla Leave-In Conditioning Spray.
Smoothing Treatments and Heat Protection Stylers are great for Blow-Outsand Smooth-Outs to soften curly roots while protecting against heat and thermal irons.

  1. Carol’s Daughter Chocolät Smoothing Collection is an incredible conditioning treatment loaded with vegetable keratin and cocoa extract, which smooths out the frizz and creates long-lasting silky hair. The Chocolät Blow Out Cream protects against thermal heat and resist humidity and is awesome for protective styles.

  1. Carol’s Daughter Macadamia Heat Protection Styling Collection protects against all thermal heat abuse from blow dryers, ceramic irons, and marcel irons. This is my favorite heat protection styling collection. I simply love the scent––it’s delicious! Apply Macadamia Heat Styling Foam before wrapping, roller-setting and all-natural sets. The Macadamia Finishing Shine Mist and Heat Protection Serum strengthens and protects your hair strands and creates a brilliant shine. The Heat Styling Hairspray is the perfect heat protecting and finishing hairspray for all styles with a light, long-lasting hold for ceramic and tourmaline irons. It never leaves my styles crunchy or sticky and gives me the perfect hold, especially when I use it before flat iron clients. Macadamia Hold and Control really holds the edges down and creates extra hold for spiral, spiked, or barrel curls created with ceramic irons.
